10 Great WordPress Plugins for your Website

As an affiliate marketer I use WordPress as my standard CMS for creating websites. As mentioned before WordPress is a very powerful tool because of its versatility and usabilty. With a good theme and the right plugins you can create a professional website without too much technical hassle.

Furthermore, the beauty of WordPress is that you can start from a simple basis and then increase the functionality of the website by using plugins. These plugins come in all forms and sizes. Most of them are built by individuals and are free (or have a free version). On average I have 10 to 20 plugins running on a high content website. In my experience this does not hamper webpage speed significantly. Just make sure you do not have an overkill (i.e .50+) as that can slow down your website(s) and lower your rankings in the search engines.

Below are some of the best WordPress plugins that can increase your website usability and your conversion rates. All of them are free to use.

Pretty Link – Makes your links look nice. Very handy for ordering your affiliate links while they look better for visitors too. This increases CTR. Furthermore, you can manually “nofollow”  them and as such avoid the bad influence of affiliate links on your SE rankings.

Aweber Integration – I always have an email signup, whatever the page. There are no direct costs, and you can reuse the list for your marketing ends later. This plugin is great if you work with Aweber, which I use. There are also specialized plugins for other email service providers.

SEO Ultimate or WordPress SEO – These are great plugins for managing and improving onsite SEO. Both are on the same level in my opinion.

Search Meter – With this handy plugin you can track what visitors are looking for. If there are a lot of queries about topics you have not covered yet, you know what to write next!

Google XML plugin – Builds sitemaps and notifies the search engines when you updated your content.

Duplicator - Very useful plugin if you want to build multiple niche sites with the same theme and setup. Duplicator does just that. It copies and export your current theme and setup, enabling you to import these easily into a new domain.

Quick Cache – Increases the loading speed of your websitepages, thus increasing usability for the visitor.

WordPress Database Backup - Automatically backups up your website content. A must have.

Simple Share Buttons – In my opinion the best social sharing plugin there currently is. Covers twitter, facebook, linkedin, google plus and more with very nice designs to choose from.

Better WP Security – This one is a must-have. It makes sure that your website is protected against hackers and brute force attacks.

In case you think I missed one or you use other good ones, please let me know in the comments!

Great tips. The Duplicator plugin seems like a must-have for anyone looking to build smaller sites that look alike. Obviously it’s easy enough to re-create your steps on new sites, but installing and re-configuring plug-ins can be a real pain.
